The Chihuahuan Desert is the largest desert in North America and the most biologically diverse desert in the Western Hemisphere, with over 3,500 plant species alone. The Asombro Institute for Science Education is dedicated to sharing the wonder of this incredible ecosystem with local students by increasing natural science literacy through engaging, place-based education.

Your support enables us to fulfill this mission in local classrooms and on field trips to our 935-acre Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park in Las Cruces.

Your donation will make it possible for students to learn about crosscutting science concepts, such as energy, through relevant, place-based examples. Instead of learning about energy transfers as traditionally taught by considering non-living objects, local eighth graders can investigate the phenomenon through a living system, the Chihuahuan Desert food web. Engaging models and experiments bring this crosscutting concept to life for students.

Adopt a cactus today, and your donation will help Asombro provide exciting, hands-on science programs like this to K-12 students in New Mexico and west Texas.

Cactus adoptions cannot be shipped internationally.
